The beautiful bearded Golden Laced Polish is outstanding as an ornamental chicken, makes a wonderful and friendly pet, and is a favorite in the showroom. The American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection standardized this variety in 1874.
The breed name Polish does not refer the place of origin, which is Holland, but derives from the old Dutch word pol, or top. On top of this chicken’s head is a crest of feathers. An exceptionally large crest may restrict vision, requiring a bit of trimming.
The bearded Golden Laced Polish is nearly identical to the Silver Laced Polish, also available here at Chickens for Backyards. The only difference is that, instead of having white feathers rimmed with black, the black-rimmed feathers of the Golden Polish are a rich golden bay.
