While there are several different Wyandotte chicken breeds available, the Silver Laced Wyandotte breed has become arguably the most popular. It first originated in New York back in the 1870s and has evolved into one of the greatest American heritage breeds ever developed. Between the Silver Laced Wyandotte’s striking good looks and ability to produce eggs consistently, there are many people who have understandably welcomed them onto their farms and into their backyards.
Silver Laced Wyandotte chickens are well equipped to handle the harshest of winters, thanks to their pea combs. They also boast large white feathers with black trim, creating a lacing effect on their bodies and have black, fluffy feathers on their tails that may require occasional trimming. While this breed is considered to be a cold hardy breed, keep in mind that they prefer to stay nestled in their coop when extremely cold temperatures hit.
Silver Laced Wyandotte chickens are great for their multi-purpose capabilities. Not only does the Silver Laced Wyandotte chicken make for a wonderful backyard pet, but it is a top choice for meat and egg production. At maturity, hens can reach roughly 6 pounds, whereas roosters can weigh up to 7 pounds, offering a decent amount of meat. Additionally, hens from this particular breed can lay up to 200 brown eggs annually, ranging in size from medium to large. They can also be broody and make great mothers if given the opportunity. If you are currently in search of a breed that is ideal for free-range purposes, the Silver Laced Wyandotte chicken is truly an ideal choice.

Thanks
We named our Silver Laced Wyandotte, Iggy, after Iggy Azalea who has a hit named “Fancy”. This bird is truly that, fancy! We are still waiting to see if we have a roo or a hen but my goodness both are gorgeous. Our chicks arrived quickly, were perky and are healthy as can be! We are thrilled with our SLW addition.

Stunning bird!
Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that our girls are doing great. With 7 chickens we are getting 5 or 6 eggs on alternating days. Sometimes 7 a day! Mademoiselle CuCoo Marans lays the biggest eggs I have ever seen and they are almost always double yolks.
I am a very satisfied customer. If and when I need more birds I will be getting them from y’all.
Cheers

And you were absolutely correct on the fire ants. They don’t stand a chance. In fact the girls have almost eradicated them completely from our yard. Something I have not been able to do in the last 10-15 years….

Hello!
I ordered 3 of these beautiful birds – all including the free one arrived safely! Shipping was quick! They will be a month old tomorrow! I have named them Mable, Caroline, Betty & Ethel. Their favorite thing to do seems to be scratching out every ounce of food in their feeder every time I fill it. haha. I absolutely love them and this breed! I will be ordering more chicks from you in the future!
