One of the most desirable traits of Cream Legbar chicks is that they can be sexed by color. Male chicks usually have a pale dot on the head and little to no eye streaking. Female chicks usually have a dark brown to black stripe that starts on top of the head and runs down the body. Day-old chicks may also show a tiny crest beginning to develop on top of the head.

Cream Legbar chickens are attractive, medium-weight birds with unique feathering and plenty of personality. Their small slicked-back crest sits behind the comb, giving them a distinctive look. Roosters usually have cream and dark gray barring, while hens are darker overall with salmon-chestnut and gray coloring. Both males and females have red faces, combs, wattles, and yellow legs and feet.

Cream Legbar hens are best known for laying beautiful medium to large eggs that can range from sky blue to light green. Hens may produce around 180 eggs per year, making this breed a fun choice for colorful egg baskets. They are active foragers, rarely broody, and do well in many backyard environments with proper care, housing, fresh water, and protection.
