The Golden Comet chicken is a cross between the Cherry Egger rooster and Rhode Island White hen. Its name was inspired by its beautiful reddish-gold color but is also sometimes known as the Cinnamon Queen, Red Star, Golden Buff, or Red Six Link. It has become a very popular chicken breed over the years due to its egg-laying capabilities and the fact that it’s very easy to manage for both farmers and those who raise backyard chickens.
Golden Comet chickens have become popular pets over the years because of their happy, docile temperament. Unlike many other chickens that require constant attention and upkeep, Golden Comet chickens tend to be very easy to manage. They are very calm and excellent with young children, which can come in handy if you would like to purchase Golden Comet chicks as a means of teaching your kids responsibility. Your kids will be able to handle their chicks easily, interact with them and learn all about their nature.
Aside from the Golden Comet chicken’s use as a backyard pet, many people utilize them for egg production. Golden Comet chicks don’t grow to be very large (hens reaching 4 pounds while roosters reach a total of 6 pounds), but they are still plenty capable of laying more than 300 large, brown eggs every year - that’s roughly one egg every day.
