The Silver Laced Wyandotte is the most popular of the Wyandotte variety. This breed was originated in the early 1870s in New York state. The Silver Laced Wyandotte is a very cherished breed for all that have experience with them. From their very striking looks to their consistent production, they are a great asset to backyards everywhere. The Silver Laced Wyandottes have white feathers that are bordered by black creating the lacing appearance that they are named for. The tail feathers are black and very fluffy, some owners will occasionally trim and clean the area to prevent matting of their delicate tail. Having pea combs, they are very cold hardy birds, but as with any breeds, they prefer to be nestled in their cozy coops in extremely cold weather. The Wyandotte produces a good number of eggs throughout the year, approximately 200. The color of the eggs are tinted to light brown. Hens can be broody and make great mothers. A fully developed hen can weigh about 6 pounds and roosters will be up to 7 ½ pounds.
