The Turken (Naked Neck) is thought to have originated in Eastern Hungary. This breed became very popular in Europe and the United States in the 1900s. Naked Neck chickens are recognized in 1965 in the American Standard of Perfection in four colors: red, white, buff, and black.
This breed got their name Turken because originally people thought this bird was a cross between a turkey and a chicken. The bare neck characteristic is intentionally bred into the chickens. Surprisingly the Naked Neck is resistant to both cold and hot climates. They are also extremely hardy birds. The Turken is known for being broody and good mothers. If you are looking for a pet chicken that is easy to tame then this is the one for you. They have a very calm temperament and handle confinement well when it is not too crowded.
The day-old Naked Neck baby chicks we are selling are multi-colored. This unique dual purpose breed has about half as many feathers as other chickens the same size. This feature makes it easy to pluck and results in a smoothly dressed chicken when you are finished.
