The Blue Cochin Bantam is a little round ball of fluff. It looks like the big Blue Cochin Standard chicken, only much smaller. The bantam variety was recognized by the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection in 1977.
Among all the feather-legged bantam breeds, Cochins are the most popular. Their puffy feathers and low posture result in their much loved roly-poly appearance. They are extremely calm chickens that require little by way of backyard living space.
Blue feather coloring is rather odd, in that blue chickens don't necessarily produce blue chicks. Instead they will be a mix of blue, blue-black, and splash. To get 100% blue offspring, you would need to mate a blue-black to a splash.
The docile Blue Cochin Bantam is wonderful for exhibition. And it is adored by children of all ages as a cuddly backyard pet.
