Bantam Cochins are arguably the most popular chickens for exhibition. And Black Cochin Bantams are right up there near the top. They were accepted into the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection in 1875.
As well as being terrific show birds, Cochin bantams also make great backyard pets. Children adore their friendly attitude, as well as their appearance as a walking ball of fluffy feathers.
At maturity Black Cochin Bantams have completely black plumage. However, you can expect youngsters to have some white feathers during their first and second stage feathering. In their final molt into adult plumage, at about six months of age, their feathers will be solid black.
