The Silver Duckwing Phoenix Standard is one of the long-tail chicken breeds, famed for the roosters’ unusually long tails. The Phoenix rooster’s tail can grow to as much as 5 feet long, the saddle feathers up to a foot and a half long, and the sickles at least twice that.
Silver Duckwing Phoenix roosters have black feathers, with a sharply contrasting silver head, neck, shoulders, saddle, and wing bay. The hens’ feathers are a mixture of black and white, resulting an attractive gray color, enhanced by a salmon-colored breast.
The Silver Duckwing Phoenix Standard has been recognized by the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection since 2017. It is quite similar to the Silver Duckwing Yokohama, except that the Phoenix has a single comb and white earlobes, while the Yokohama has a walnut comb and red earlobes.
