Lavender Orpington chicks are a beautiful choice for backyard flock owners who want a gentle, fluffy breed with soft lavender coloring, steady egg production, and family-friendly personality. Orpington chickens first originated in Orpington, England in the late 1800s, and they have become one of the most popular chicken breeds for pets, backyard flocks, and families.

Lavender Orpingtons are known for their full, fluffy feathers and calm temperament. Their soft plumage can make them look larger than they are, while also helping them handle a variety of climates with proper housing, shade, fresh water, and care. The lavender gene is different from the blue gene because it can produce consistent lavender coloring in offspring. This gene dilutes black and red-brown pigments, creating the even light slate-blue appearance also known as self-blue.

Orpington chickens are loved for being docile, gentle, and easy to manage. They are a great choice for beginners, children, and backyard chicken keepers who want friendly birds that are comfortable around people. Because they are heavier chickens and are not strong flyers, Lavender Orpingtons can do well in a secure chicken run or free-range backyard setup.

Lavender Orpingtons may carry the shredder gene, which can cause feathers to split or look rough as they develop. Even with this natural feathering trait, they remain a favorite for their beauty, sweetness, and rare color appeal.

Lavender Orpington hens are also good brown egg layers, typically producing about 200 to 280 brown eggs per year. If you are looking for brown egg laying chickens for sale, Lavender Orpingtons are a charming way to add beauty, calm personality, and dependable egg production to your backyard flock.
