Black Jersey Giant chicks are an excellent choice for backyard flock owners who want a large, gentle breed with dual-purpose value, beautiful black plumage, and dependable brown egg production. Developed in New Jersey in the late 1800s, Jersey Giants are known as one of the largest purebred chicken breeds in North America.

Black Jersey Giants are slow to mature, but they grow into impressive birds with calm, easygoing personalities. Their large size makes them useful as meat birds, while the hens are also good layers of large brown eggs. This makes the breed a practical choice for homesteads, small farms, and backyard chicken keepers who want both beauty and productivity in one flock.

These chickens are known for their glossy black feathers, which can show a beautiful green sheen in the sunlight. Despite their size, Black Jersey Giants are typically gentle and not aggressive, making them a good choice for families and chicken keepers who enjoy calm backyard birds.

Black Jersey Giant hens may also go broody and can make good mothers when given the opportunity. Because of their large bodies, they need a roomy coop, sturdy roosts, and enough space to move comfortably. With proper housing, feed, fresh water, and care, they can be a strong and rewarding addition to a backyard flock.

If you are looking for large brown egg laying chickens for sale, Black Jersey Giants are a wonderful way to add size, calm temperament, productivity, and classic heritage appeal to your flock.
