The Silver Appleyard Duck comes England, developed in the 1930s by duck breeder Reginald Appleyard. The breed came to the United States in the 1960s and was admitted to the American Standard of Perfection in 1998.

The Appleyard plumage color is similar to that of a Mallard, but much paler in color with lots of silvery patches. While the males get even paler as they age, the female’s color becomes darker. Variations in plumage patterns from one duck to another lead to easy identification of each duck in a flock.
Classified as a heavyweight breed, the large and blocky Silver Appleyard Duck grows rapidly and produces lean meat. Yet the hens are among the best layers of the heavy duck breeds.

Appleyard eggs are large to extra-large and typically have white shells. Some hens, though, may lay eggs with blue shells. The hens will brood and are usually good mothers.

Silver Appleyard's are active foragers that rarely fly. For an all-around duck suitable as a beautiful ornamental, docile pet, good egg layer, excellent meat producer, and show stopper, you can’t beat the Silver Appleyard Duck.
